Where to Drink With Your In-Laws in NYC

When the in-laws visit and want to go out for a drink, the choice can be stressful. Here are some uncrowded, yet still impressive spots to take your in-laws that will get you on their good side.

Dante

The best spot for dinner and drinks with the in-laws

Dante is a lively restaurant and bar in the West Village, serving up great drinks, elevated bar food and a full service dinner. This is a fantastic option that feels vibrant without being overly crowded or too loud. The drinks are also phenomenal, earning Dante international accolades for its cocktail program. It’s a spot that both you and the parents can enjoy, wrapping up dinner and drinks in one go.

Sunken Harbor Club

For the in-laws looking to have fun, but don’t want a crowd

Sunken Harbor Club

Located above Gage and Tollner – a classic Brooklyn restaurant that has been open since 1892 – Sunken Harbor Club is a casual tiki bar that doesn’t feel kitchy. The crowd is diverse, with young couples on dates and groups of older patrons catching up over the house made banana liqueur. It’s a small space and is walk-in only, but a good option if you’re in the area or even having differ at Gage and Tollner below.

The Campbell

For the in-laws who want to sight-see

The Campbell

Located inside Grand Central station, The Campbell is a great experience for out-of-towners. It’s also close to Midtown if your in-laws are staying in a hotel near-by. The drinks are average, but the interior feels like a fancy bank vault from the 1920s. Keep the drink orders simple and enjoy the ambiance.

Nubeluz

For the in-laws you really need to impress

On the 50th floor of the Ritz-Carlton, Nubeluz is a stylish rooftop bar serving up innovative cocktails and some of the best views in the city. This is where to take the in-laws if you really want to impress. Nubeluz is reservation-only, so plan ahead. Order an air “cloud” cocktail to really wow the parents. Nubeluz’s layout is also very comfortable, with plush banquets, and private alcove seating – a rarity in NYC.

Ardesia Wine Bar

For the laid-back, casual in-laws who like their wine

Ardesia is a low-key, modern wine bar in Hell’s Kitchen, that serves small plates. It has a breezy, casual vibe with a solid selection of affordable, yet interesting wines. You can carry a conversation here and it’s a great spot to decompress after a day of sight-seeing with the in-laws. To mix things up, try one of the house made wine spritzes or a glass of orange wine.
