How to get into Attaboy

A night at Attaboy requires planning. Here’s how to get in and where to wait.

How to get in

Attaboy takes planning, but it’s worth the effort

The door to Attaboy is almost impossible to find – if you can’t spot the door, look for a window with a sign for a tailor shop. Thankfully, there’s often a line to get on the waitlist that will help guide you to the right location. If you’re going on a Friday or Saturday, expect to wait a couple of hours after you put your name down, so show up early if you want to increase the odds you get in.

Where to wait

Spots to grab a drink without a waitlist:

1.     Paper Planes: ~5 min walk from Attaboy

Paper planes is a new speakeasy in LES, serving up fun drinks and light bites in a casual space. It’s a great spot to sip creative cocktails like the “Tokyo Tour”, made with black currant-infused vodka, shiso and yakult. The “Paper Plane” is also solid and topped with a paper plane. Opt to sit in the speakeasy section with the glass roof ceiling versus the front-room – you can get there by following the paper planes taped to the wall.

Copper & Oak has an impressive library of spirits

2.     Copper & Oak: ~5 min walk from Attaboy

Copper & Oak isn’t a cocktail bar – it’s a library of spirits, with an impressive catalogue of whiskies. The bar is small and narrow with golden walls illuminating the endless bottles of tequila, mezcal, rum, and whisky. The bartender is incredibly knowledgeable and will indulge you in discussion about any drink you pick. Try one of the spirit tasting flights to sample a range of options, or put yourself in the hands of the bartender.

3.     Bar Goto: ~5 min walk from Attaboy

Bar Goto is a Japanese-inspired cocktail bar with well-executed drinks and excellent bar food. Try the sakrua martini, which has a cherry blossom flower floating elegantly in the glass. The snacks are not to be missed. Get the okonomiyaki, which is perfectly crisped and slathered in okonomi sauce and kewpie. Bar Goto can require a wait

If you plan ahead:

1.     Sesh Comedy: Next door to Attaboy

If you want to get in a few laughs (or want to do something other than bar hopping), try the Sesh comedy club located next door. Catch performances from an array of comics, ranging from emerging stars on the NYC circuit to established comedians who’ve been on Comedy Central, HBO and more. The vibe is thrifty (you’ll be sitting on fold out chars in a cramped space), but tickets are cheap and it’s BYOB. Purchase tickets ahead of time and walk over for the show after putting your name down at Attaboy.

2.     Double Chicken Please: ~2 min walk from Attaboy

If you want to impress a date with two top-ranked bars in one night, book a spot at Double Chicken Please’s Back Room for dinner and drinks. Try creative cocktails inspired by classic dishes, such as the “Waldorf Salad” and “Mango Sticky Rice”, or stick to their take on the classics. The food is a must – you can’t go wrong with the chicken sandwiches, with come with interesting condiments like Salted Egg Yolk. You can try to walk into the Front Room, which serves a shortened food menu and cocktails on tap, but that often requires a one hour wait at peak times.
